TOOTH DISEASES & WHITENING

Composite and glass-ionomer restorations (white fillings)

Tooth restoration with composite materials (white fillings) is a modern method of treating teeth affected by decay, as well as minor crown fractures.

In addition to the obvious characteristic that composite restorations blend very well aesthetically with the surrounding tooth tissue, they also have some other advantages.

- Compared to amalgam fillings, tooth tissue is preserved when placing a composite filling, because the cavity preparation is smaller and does not require achieving a particular shape.
- Composite material is very suitable for modeling, which allows the filling on the chewing surface to have the characteristics of a natural tooth in its shape (cusps, fissures and pits). Properly shaping the chewing surface of the filling contributes to preserving good chewing function.
- Contains no mercury

For restorative materials we have chosen products of the renowned Japanese company “GC” (http://www.gc-dental.com/ )

Endodontics (tooth treatment)

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry responsible for preserving teeth, when the organism itself is not able to defend itself.

These are situations in which inflammatory changes have occurred on the dental pulp (nerve and blood vessel in the tooth), necrosis or gangrene. Also, inflammatory processes at the root tip area as a consequence of infection of the tooth's canal system. These changes and the discomfort that accompanies them are the most common reason patients visit the dentist because of “tooth pain”.

Depending on the diagnosis and the course of therapy itself, endodontic treatment is carried out in one or more sessions.

Endodontic tooth treatment is a delicate procedure consisting of opening the pulp chamber, removing the canal contents, cleaning the canals, applying medication when needed and the final filling with sealer and gutta-percha points. After filling the canals, the crown of the tooth is restored. Depending on the previous degree of damage to the crown by decay, the restoration can be done with composite materials or with a post and ceramic crown.
Root canal treatment is performed with manual and machine systems (ProTaper, WaveOne, ProFile www.dentsply.com ), with highly precise control of the root canal length using a fifth-generation apex locator (MedicNRG). The complete procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is painless for the patient.

Tooth whitening

A dazzling smile has always attracted the attention of other people. However, by consuming various foods and drinks or under the influence of bad habits such as smoking, teeth become darker. Whitening gives patients their white teeth back. The tooth whitening procedure is completely painless and does not harm the tooth substance. It is possible to whiten all natural teeth, whether vital or non-vital (teeth from which the nerve has been removed). At the “dr Marković” clinic we apply different tooth whitening techniques.

*In-office whitening

A whitening technique performed in the office itself, where in a treatment of 30 – 60 minutes with world-renowned materials (Philips Zoom! WhiteSpeed) immediate whitening with prolonged effect occurs. The system is based on the application of hydrogen peroxide in a gel, which is applied to the teeth, and special LED lamps. The lamp does not heat or damage the teeth and serves to accelerate the painless whitening process to 45 - 60 minutes, while the gel itself contains fluoride that benefits the teeth.

 *At-home whitening
- a special tray is made in the office for applying the material (gel) that you use at home. Whitening lasts on average 7 days.

Patients who have tooth discoloration from aging, tobacco, dark carbonated drinks, teas, coffee and red wine will achieve the greatest success with this procedure. Patients with gray shades from tetracycline or other chemicals may achieve less dramatic results, but should in any case expect an improvement from this short procedure. For those patients with serious stains, the use of the Zoom in-office whitening technique combined with the Zoom DayWhite or Zoom NiteWhite at-home method will improve the results. The Zoom system will not whiten ceramic, composite or any other material.
